106 Ball and Chain
A man was attached to a 10 pound ball and chain his whole life. When he was young, he was bound to where ever the ball and chain was placed. As he got older and stronger, he was able to carry the ball and chain with him where ever he went. However, the man was never strong enough to break the chain.
One night, as the man slept, someone came into his room and cut the chain from the man and freed him. When the man woke up in the morning, he was startled to find that the chain was broken. He pondered this fact for a while, staring intently at the broken chain. Then the man picked up the ball and chain and carried it with him and continued on with his day.
Jesus offers us freedom from our sins, but we oftentimes make the mistake of holding onto those sins and continuing to suffer the consequences. You cannot walk in the light while clinging onto shreds of darkness. Put away those sins for good and take up the cross!
