116 A Christian Nation?
Gandhi was holding a press conference as reporters from all around the world asked him questions about politics and state in India. There were mostly mundane questions being asked until one reporter stood up and asked Gandhi an unsual question.
"When do you think India will become a Christian nation?" the reporter asked.
Virtually everyone in the press boxes looked at the reporter with disbelief or disdain upon hearing the reporter's questions. People started mocking the reporter and called for him to sit down until Gandhi motioned for everyone in the room to become quiet.
"That is a valid question," Gandhi calmly replied, "and I will answer it."
Everyone gasped at Gandhi's reply and the room became very still as everyone listened carefully to Gandhi's words.
"I have studied the Bible and Jesus' teachings and I believe they are true. I have studied Jesus' life and see that he is a good man who lived as he taught. However, I also see that Christians do not live as Jesus has taught and do not act like the Bible and his teachings are true. India would have become a Christian nation years ago if it were not for the Christians."
How are you living your life? Do you call yourself a Christian? Do you live it in a way that people see that you believe the Bible and the teachings of Jesus are true?
