132 Inferno
Fire Marshal Will could feel the heat from the coming blaze, but he had a job to do. Will went to every single house in the small town that was being threatened by the oncoming wildfire. He told all the residents that did not evacuate to leave immediately. There was no time to pack.
At the last house Will went to at the edge of town, there was an old man who refused to leave his home. He had the door deadbolted and yelled at Will through the crack of the ajar door. "You can't trick me!" the old man shouted. "The fire isn't coming this way! You can't make me leave!"
"Sir, you can see the blaze from your house," pleaded Will. "We have been sending warnings to everyone in town for the past few days! If you do not leave now, you will die!"
"I don't care about no fire!" shouted back the old man. "Leave me alone! You city folk don't know nothing!"
The old man slammed the door shut on Will. The fire started entering the town. Will delayed as long as he could, but he didn't have anymore time. He ran to his emergency vehicle and drove away, looking back sadly at the old man's house.
Soon after, the fire engulfed the entire area and the old man died in his house. A pang of grief gripped Will's heart as he saw the fire rage on. Why wouldn't the old man listen when he still had the chance to escape and live?
The Holy Spirit knocks on all our hearts and beckons us to come to God. However, if we continually resist the urgings of the Holy Spirit, we will become deaf to His calls. Please do not grieve the Holy Spirit!
