147 What Rich Trash

Cole was standing on a small hill overlooking a trash dump in city in South Africa.  He was watching people picking over trash that has likely been already picked over at least six times.  He saw how people were searching diligently for anything of worth or use.  Cole saw how a person would celebrate when he found something that Cole himself would throw away in disgust.

Cole thought back to a few weeks ago about at argument he had with his father just before he left on this missionary trip to Africa.  Cole complained how he didn't have the latest gadgets like his friends and how he was suffering as a result.  His father told him that he was actually a rich person, but he didn't appreciate what he had.  Cole's father told him that there are places in the world where people would be so happy to have Cole's unwanted things and trash.

Cole looked at the people scavenging for survival and bit his lip.  Cole had thought back then his father was just spouting nonsense, but his father was so right.  Cole thought to himself how these people would be so happy picking through the trash at his house and his neighborhood.  They would probably feel that they were so rich to have such a privilege.

Cole turned back and headed toward the site where he was helping the missionaries build a church.  Cole decided that he would never again whine about the things he did not have when he had such rich trash.
