Agent Carson was assigned to a new unit dedicated to busting counterfeit money operations. On the first day of training, Agent Carson was given a $100 bill by his superior. Agent Carson, surprised, asked his superior, "Sir, why did you give me this $100 bill? Aren't you going to train us how to spot fake $100 bills?"
The superior glared at Agent Carson and sternly replied, "Agent, the only way you will be able to spot fakes is if you know the real thing inside out! I want you to study this real $100 bill day and night for the next two weeks!" He then gave Agent Carson a magnifying glass and dispensed him to his office.
Agent Carson went to his office thinking that this was a stupid idea, but he nevertheless complied with his superior's orders. Agent Carson spent the next two weeks studying and examining the $100 bill. He carefully analyzed every detail of the bill. He took note of all the colors and raised threads. analyzed the portrait of Benjamin Franklin and the exact positioning of the shadowy watermark. He carefully measured the width of the security thread embedded in the bill. He looked at every possible feature of the $100 bill and committed it to memory.
After two weeks, Agent Carson returned to his superior and was given a test to discern all the genuine $100 bills mixed in with the latest confiscated counterfeit $100 bills. Agent Carson easily passed this test and put separated the genuine from the counterfeit bills and put them into two piles. Agent Carson had to admit his training did indeed pay off with good dividends.
How do you discern truth from error? The only sure way is to study the Bible carefully for yourself and compare what you hear with the Bible as the standard of truth. Only then will you be safe from falling into error.
