16 The Gold Miners
Zeke and Wade had been mining for gold in the mountains for years without much success. However, their patient efforts have richly paid off. They struck an enormous gold vein! After much celebration, Zeke and Wade made a pact to not tell another living soul about the gold and that they will split the profits 50/50. They hurriedly ran back into town to buy supplies.
They bought rope, dynamite, new pickaxes, and the rest of the equipment they needed. As they made their trek back into the mountains, Zeke noticed that someone was following them. He turned around and saw that in fact the entire town was following them!
"Wade!" exclaimed Zeke angrily. "Did you tell someone about the gold mine? I thought we had a deal!"
Wade turns around and is shocked by the multitude following them. "I didn't tell anyone anything!" protested Wade. "Did you tell anyone?"
"Of course not!" yelled Zeke. "I didn't tell anyone either!"
Wade slowed down and asked the nearest townsperson why they were following him and Zeke. The townsperson replied that they're coming to get some gold, too. Puzzled, Wade asked the townsperson, "Well, how do you know about the gold? We're pretty sure we didn't tell anyone about it."
The townsperson replied, "You two fellows didn't say a word, but we could all tell that you found gold by the beaming expressions on your faces as you bought stuff in town."
Jesus said that we are the light of the world. We need to shine brightly so that others around us can see the light of Jesus in us. We need to be good examples to others in our conduct, manners, and speech. We should live our life in such a way that without a word being said, everyone knows that we are Christians who love Jesus!
