25 The Trainer
"Argh! It's impossible!" cried out Wilma as she talked to her friend Valerie over the phone. "I just can't do it! How can I lose 30 pounds in 4 months for my wedding? I'm not going to be able to fit into my wedding dress that my grandmother made for me! It was always my dream to wear that dress!"
Wilma slumped down to the couch and started crying. She wanted to look the best for her wedding, but she had been trying to lose weight for almost a year now without any success. She tried joining a gym and bought several different workout dvds, but nothing really helped her lose weight.
Valerie was silent for a moment as her friend was sobbing. "You know," replied Valerie, "I could probably help you lose that weight."
"What?" Wilma asked skeptically, "I know you are fit, but I've tried just about everything. What can you do to help me?"
"Well, Wilma, you've tried every fancy weight loss plan under the sun, but I can help you lose weight old-school style," laughed Valerie.
"What do you mean by old-school style?" asked Wilma.
"Diet and exercise!" Valerie said with a wry smile. "I'm going to make you change your eating habits and exercise more efficiently! You are going to cry a lot and be in a lot of pain for the next couple of months, but if you trust me and stick with my plan, I can definitely get you to drop that weight!"
"Okay, let's do it, Val!" said Wilma, as she dried her tears.
The next couple of months were really hard on Wilma. Valerie was true to her word, making her exercise 6 days a week, resting only on Saturdays. Valerie made Wilma throw out all the frozen food, snacks, sweets, and junk food out of her house. Valerie made Wilma promise her that Wilma would not eat any fried food, pizza, chocolate, or fast food until after the wedding. There were times Wilma cried and wanted to give up but Valerie was there to encourage her and help her when she was down. When the wedding came, Wilma successfully reached her goal of losing 30 pounds and was able to fit into her dream wedding dress. As Wilma rushed towards the limousine with her husband, she threw her bouquet right at Valerie in subtle thanks for guiding her and not giving up on her these past months.
