34 The Sculptor

In ancient Athens, there was a sculptor of great renown who was famous for the meticulous detail in his statues.  One day the sculptor was visited by his friend.  As the sculptor was working on his latest masterpiece, his friend asked him why he puts so much detail in his sculptures.  He pointed out to the sculptor that most people wouldn't even notice the amount of detail that the sculptor put into his sculptures, pointing out the fingernail detail, for example.  In addition, the friend told the sculptor that in a couple of hundred of years or so, age might strip away the details as the arms of the statue might break off.  Therefore, why bother with all those details?

The sculptor agreed that most people will not see or appreciate all the detail that he put in.  However, the sculptor gave his friend a sly smile and replied, "The gods will see those details."

God sees all our deeds we do, whether in public or in secret.  Our good works do not have to be visible to men.  In fact, Jesus states that is better to do our good deeds in secret, and that God who sees in secret will reward us openly.
