35 The Headstand
Every time Becky went shopping at the mall with her mother, she noticed that the security guard always looked very sad. Becky always wondered about him and decided she wanted to share the Gospel with him. However, Becky was very shy and too afraid to approach the security guard. She knew she wanted to share the good news about Jesus with him, but she wasn't sure what she should say. Becky decided to pray on this.
After about two weeks of constant prayer, Becky got this idea to do a headstand in front of the security guard. "A headstand?" she thought to herself. "Why did I think of such a crazy idea? How will that help the security guard?"
Becky prayed for more guidance, but she couldn't shake the idea of doing a headstand. She debated with herself for about a week, but finally decided to do it. She wasn't sure how her little action was going to bring the Good News to the security guard, but she felt compelled to do that headstand.
Becky went to the mall and stood at the wall opposite the security guard. "I don't know why I'm doing this, but here goes nothing," she thought to herself. She stared intently at the security guard, said a quick silent prayer, and did a headstand. When the guard looked her way, he was shocked and rushed towards Becky. "Why are you doing a headstand?" he cried out.
Becky got up and stammered, "I...wanted to...share...and...I prayed...and..."
However, the security guard cut her off and put his hand on her shoulders and blurted out, "Thank you, thank you, thank you!" Becky was left speechless. She didn't know what to say to the security guard.
"I don't know how you knew or what," said the security guard, "but I asked God for sign. You see, I've been a Christian all my life, but I have fallen on hard times lately. My mother died last month in a car accident. My son was thrown in jail two weeks ago for doing drugs. My health problems have been getting worse. To top it all off, my wife left me for another man. My faith in God just feels so weak now. What did I do to deserve all this? I prayed and prayed and I asked God for a sign that He is still there for me. I know it might be selfish and wicked of me to ask, but I needed a sign. I asked God for something unusual. The sign I asked was for someone to do a headstand right in front of me. I have been waiting for this sign for several months. I had given up all hope and decided that I was going to commit suicide and shoot myself after work today. But you came and did the headstand! Thank you, Jesus!"
Becky and the security guard both cried. She hugged him and they prayed together. Becky thanked God later that night that her little action, a headstand, actually saved a life and brought someone back to God.
Even the smallest of our actions can have a major impact on the lives of others. Jesus calls on all of us to share the good news that we can be saved if we accept Jesus as our Savior. You don't have to be a powerful evangelist or a missionary who travels overseas to do this. You can start at home by sharing the Gospel with your family and friends. You can also leave literature tracts like GLOW if you are afrad of speaking. You never know whose life you might touch!
