44 I Shall Return
In the spring of 1942, as World War 2 was going on, the Japanese were fighting Alliedforces in the Philippines. General MacArthur was ordered to retreat to Australia to retrench and re-evaluate the war campaign. Before he left, General MacArthur promised his troops, "I shall return."
Two years later, General MacArthur triumphantly announced, "I have returned" in the fall of 1944 as the Allied forces began a campaign to retake the Philippines. Although the Japanese fiercely counterattacked, they were unable to stop the Allied advance and the Philippines eventually were liberated from Japanese occupation.
If a man like General MacArthur was able to keep his promise to his soldiers when things looked bleak for them, how much more then will our Lord Jesus Christ be able to keep His promise that He shall return? Jesus promised in the book of Revelation that He is coming quickly. Like the soldiers sixty years ago who believed MacArthur's promise, we need to endure and continue fighting as Christians as we look forward to the soon return of our Lord and Savior!
