60 An Open Heart in Mexico
Pastor Will traveled to Mexico to a small town for an evangelistic meeting. It was a good gathering, with over a hundred people in attendance. After Pastor Will delivered his message, as he was meeting and greeting people, two girls came up to him and asked him to preach the Gospel to their deaf and mute 6 year-old cousin Sabrina.
Pastor Will was touched by the girls' request and immediately agreed to do so. The girls brought out Sabrina and Pastor Will knelt down on one knee to talk to her. He preached to the girl in English, which interpreted into Spanish by an interpreter, and the girls signed for Sabrina so she could understand what Pastor Will was trying to tell her.
Pastor Will told Sabrina that heaven is like a huge and fabulous mansion with many decorated rooms and a lovely garden stretched as far as the eye can see. Sabrina's eyes widened as she heard Pastor Will's description.
However, Pastor Will told Sabrina, she cannot come in this mansion. Sabrina was shocked and started tearing up. Sin, explained Pastor Will, separates her from God, which is why she cannot come into the mansion. The good news, though, is if she confesses and repents of her sins and accepts Jesus into her heart, she can come into this great and wonderful mansion and live with God.
Pastor Will asked Sabrina if she wanted Jesus to come into her life. Sabrina signed that she wanted to accept Jesus into her life. The girls joyfully hugged Sabrina and Pastor Will.
As Pastor Will was smiling at this joyful scene, he heard someone from the audience ask him to stick his fingers into the girl's ears and pray for her. Pastor Will looked around in puzzlement. What a weird request, he thought to himself. Pastor Will scanned the crowd around him, but he didn't see who made that request.
However, Pastor Will heard the request again and it was very insistent. Pastor Will hesitated for a moment, but he decided to comply. He knelt down again and told Sabrina that while this may seem odd to her, he was going to put his fingers into her ears and pray for her. Sabrina nodded and signed for Pastor Will to continue.
Pastor Will prayed for her that she would continue in her new-found faith and that would day she would fully come to see the power of living a life in Christ. Pastor Will turned to leave, the band started playing music. As Pastor Will walked away, a crowd started to form around him. Pastor Will turned around and he saw a sight that he couldn't believe - Sabrina was swaying to beat the music! Pastor Will stared at her dumbfounded. What was going on?
Sabrina's uncle ran up to Sabrina and fell on his knees. "How is this possible, Sabrina?" he cried out. "I have known you since you were born and you were born deaf and mute! Can you really hear the music, Sabrina?"
Sabrina smiled and nodded excitedly. Both Sabrina and her uncle started crying together as he hugged her tightly. That day more people accepted Christ into their lives as a result of this miracle, and even more people in the town who were not at the meeting did the same afterwards when they heard.
As Pastor Will reflected upon this amazing event later on the flight back home, he realized that he was called to help out with this miracle, even though he himself did not believe it would be possible.
There are times we may be called to act out in faith, even though we do not fully understand the circumstances. All that is needed is a willing and open heart to follow and God will take care of the rest.
