69 Strange Drink

Jordan used to never drink anything besides water.  He was taught at a young age that water is clean and pure.  Jordan's thirst was always satisfied when he drank water.  He would never drink caffeinated drinks or alcoholic beverages.

However, one day at a friend's birthday party, Jordan's friends egged him on to try some liquor shots.  He was reluctant at first, but eventually gave into peer pressure and took a shot as his friends cheered him on.  The shot was intoxicating, but at the same time exhilarating.  Jordan took a couple of more shots but passed out shortly after.

After that day, Jordan started looking for all types of new and exotic drinks.  Water just seemed so bland and tasteless now to him.  Jordan would drink all sorts of sodas and energy drinks during the day and at night would go out with his friends to bars and drink alcoholic drinks.  As fruity and tasty and buzz-inducing as these drinks were, they never seemed to be able to quench his thirst.

As time passed on, Jordan drank more heavily, but always felt this pang of thirst.  He slowly graduated to stronger alcoholic drinks as wine and beer simply didn't do it for him anymore.  No matter what Jordan tried, though, he was never satisfied in the end.

Unfortunately, Jordan's drinking caught up to him, and he suffered acute liver failure and was rushed to the hospital.  As he lay in the intensive care unit and the medical staff rushing around him, Jordan kept muttering, "I thirst...I thirst..."

All the pleasures, activities, and distractions in the world are nothing more than broken cisterns that can never satisfy your spiritual thirst.  Turn to Jesus and ask for the living water only that He can provide!
