88 Off-Season Training
The Los Angeles Privateers had finally won the world basketball championship after years of playoff failure and frustration. The entire city celebrated the Privateers' victory. After the parade and the exit interview with the coaching staff, all the players were going to take some well-deserved rest and relaxation.
As power forward Joey Baller was cleaning out his locker and getting ready to go home, he noticed that the light was on in the team workout room. He went to the room to turn off the light, but he saw his friend Cobi intensely lifting weights.
Surprised, Joey asked, "What are you doing here, Cobi?"
"Just working out and doing some training. I'm going to hit the gym after I finish this set and work out my shot some more," replied Cobi.
"What? Training right now? We just won the world championship, man! And besides, why do YOU need to train some more, Cobi?" cried out Joey in astonishment. "You are the best shooter on our team and you were voted the MVP!"
"I know," Cobi simply replied, "but I want to get even better."
"But I don't get why, Cobi. Your game is virtually perfect! Of anybody on the team, you are the most deserving of getting a little break!" protested Joey.
"Oh, our team definitely deserves a break," smiled Cobi. "However, I figure there are guys on the other team who want a shot to knock us off the top rung. They're probably training and improving their game and I don't want to get left behind. Besides, I don't know about you, but I want to get another champtionship ring. I don't want to settle for only one."
Joey looked at Cobi thoughtfully for a moment, then he grinned. Joey dropped his bag and started to lift weights next to Cobi.
We need to exercise our spiritual muscles as well as our physical muscles. Let's commit to studying the Bible daily!
