283 Nighttime Observations
  • Original anecdote taken from a lecture by Dr. Ravi Zacharias

Sherlock Holmes and his faithful companion Dr. Watson decided to go on a camping trip after solving a particular difficult case.  They celebrated over a campfire and had quite a few drinks before turning in for the night.

In the middle of the night, Holmes woke up and looked up, perplexed.  He quickly woke up Watson next to him.

"Watson look up and tell me what you see," commanded Holmes.

"I see countless of stars," answered Watson.

"What does that tell you?" asked Holmes.

"This tells me that there are millions of galaxies and potentially billions of planets.  Astrologically, Saturn is in Leo.  Meteorologically, tomorrow will likely be a good day.  Theologically, God is sovereign and humans are tiny specks in this vast space.  What does it tell you, Holmes?"

"Watson, you idiot.  Someone has stolen our tent!"

Sometimes, the simplest answer is the most overlooked answer.  God created the heavens and earth in six days, but man has clouded this truth with elaborate explanations and sophistries.  Yet none of these sophisticated reasons can adequate explain the meaning of life like a Creator God can!
